This month: Hope

How to be Hopeful Everyday

Here are a few ways you can put your hope to use each day.  These are some points taken from Joyce Meyer’s newest book, “Get Your Hopes Up!”  I highly recommend it!  Remember, our definition of Hope is a confident, joyful expectation that something good is going to happen!

Pray One Bold Prayer Each Day

Ask Big – God is a BIG God, and He loves to answer our prayers.  He tells us in the Bible that He wants to give us the desires of our hearts.

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Stop thinking small, and ask for something big.  Put all your hope into it.  You can’t hope for what you already have.

Romans 8:24

For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?

Try God on this subject.  Don’t get into a “poor Christian” mentality.  God loves us and wants us to prosper.  He wants His people to live abundantly.  So, get your Hopes up, and ask for something you wouldn’t normally ask for.  God can do it, and He will if you believe and receive it.  Of course we are talking inside the limits of His will, but you might be surprised by what His will includes.  He wants us to have prosperous and FUN lives.  This brings us to the next point.

Do Something Fun Each Day

Doing something fun is joyful.  God loves joy and uses it as we see in Nehemiah 8:10

Nehemiah 8:10

“…the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

God does not just sit on His throne and condemn people.  He loves His people.  He wants to have a close relationship with us.  And that includes having fun.  I truly believe that you can enjoy every day if you chose to.  It is all up to you.  You may have a bad day starting, things going wrong, people upsetting you, etc, but you can choose in a split second to turn your day around.  All it takes is HOPE, and trust.  Just commit to having fun.  Don’t let satan steal your joy!  You may have to say out loud, “I’m going to have a GREAT day!  Nothing can stop the amazing day I am going to have!”  Remember, our words choose our outcome.  Then, laugh out loud!  Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, just stop and laugh.  The joy of the Lord is your STRENGTH, so be strong and put God in control, of your day and your life.  God is definitely a fun God, because He made us in His image, and being relaxed, calm, and having fun are all things we need to be doing.  We feel our best when we do.  So get your hopes up and have FUN!

Bless at Least One Person Each Day

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Acts 20:35

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

This works for me all the time.  It seems backwards to the way of the world, but that is how God works.  The more you give away, the more you receive.  Try it!  I dare you!  The more love you show others, the more love you receive.  The more forgiveness, compassion, and mercy you give, the more you get.  We are not just talking finances, although that works, too, we are talking about Spiritual blessings.  There are many ways to bless people.  Smile at someone.  Look them in the eye.  Say, “God bless you,” and not just when they sneeze!  A warm gesture like this can brighten anyone’s day, and you will see the difference it will make in you.  When you see that spark in their eyes as they light up, you feel all warm and gooey.  This in turn makes you want to do it even more.  Pretty soon, you are blessing everyone’s sock off.  This builds your hope.

Write Down at Least One Way God Has Blessed You

Remember.  Remembering is the key.  We can go out and have a great day, but if you don’t take time to stop and remember the day you have had, you will let it flit by.  There are so many things to be thankful for.  Start with one at the end of your day. Look back and think, “I made it through 3 green lights today!  What a blessing!”  It’s the little things that add up.  You may have had a day where something amazing happened that was defiantly from God, but maybe not.  Maybe it was just a fun day.  Once you start looking for the little things, you will come up with so many.  Seeing His many blessings causes our hopes to grow.

Thank God for Each Day

Don’t forget to thank God at the end of every day.  He has brought you to that place in time, and He is with you.  That is thanks enough.  But you can take that further and thank Him for the day you are going to have tomorrow.  Put your hope in tomorrow.  It worked for today, right?  If you can’t think of anything else, just thank Him that it is over!

Thank Him for your bold prayer, and trust to receive.  Thank Him for your fun day that you enjoyed together.  Thank Him for the blessing you were to someone.  Thank Him for the blessing He was to you.  There are many reasons to thank Him.  You were alive and in His presence today.

Ephesians 5:20 [Full Chapter]

always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Extra Verse:

Psalm 31:24

Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
