This Month:  Faith and Trust – The similarities

Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible.

Corrie Ten Boom

Trust and faith can sometimes be intertwined. They have common definitions.  The definition of trust includes these words: Certainty, belief, faith.  The definition of faith includes: Confidence, trust, reliance.   Without faith, there can be no trust, and vice versa.  They are part of each other.  But trust is a word that we as humans seem to have a better grasp of.  When people hear the word “faith” they automatically think of a religious person.  But, when you say “trust” they understand the meaning of relying on someone or something.  Faith works that way in the Bible, too.  We do have a “Spiritual faith” that unbelievers don’t have, but when you get down to it, faith is just trusting in God, and what He has done for us.  Let’s look at some scriptures for example.

Discussion

Scriptures of Trust

  • Psalm 9:10New International Version (NIV)
  • 10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

  • Psalm 31:14New International Version (NIV)
  • 14 But I trust in you, Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”

  • Psalm 91:2New International Version (NIV)
  • I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

  • 1 Timothy 1:15New International Version (NIV)
  • 15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…

Scriptures of Faith

  • 1 Cor. 2:5 NKJV
  • That your faith (trust) should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

  • Hebrews 11:6New International Version (NIV)
  • And without faith (trust) it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

  • Matthew 17:20New International Version (NIV)
  • 20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith (trust). Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

·         Romans 10:17New International Version (NIV)

  • 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

Discussion:

Words from Journal

  • Don’t let the enemy steal your joy or trust. That is how he got to Eve.  He made her distrust Me.

  • Sometimes the harvest is fast, and sometimes it is slower. It is not according to your will, but according to My timing.  You must show yourself worthy.  You need to trust Me in order for Me to trust you.  It takes time, but I can see your hearts and how you truly trust.  Speaking words of trust or words of doubt is a big part of what you will reap.

  • Right now, just trust in Me and take one step at a time.
